PC Demos

After many years of honest and productive activities on Amiga demo scene, we finally decided to switch on the PC. Here the challenge was different, we could no more focus on a static hardware and make everything running for one platform. We had to develop compatible demos for the large variety of available PC, taking in charge 3D acceleration, DirectX, OpenGL and even Glide. This was really a big step, passionating.
This is after that adventure we started to seriously think about developping video games.

EVOLUTION (31 October 1997)
Ranked #1 at Saturne 5

That's our first PC demo!
The name Evolution comes from the fact we made an "evolution" to pass from the Amiga to the PC.
Here only plan good old VGA mode (320x256, 8 bits) with software rasterizer.
The demo is almost entirely coded in x86 ASM.

We never forget our first love...

Code: Odin
Graphisms: Bridgeclaw
3D stuffs: Xbarr
Soundtrack: Liszt

DIMENSION (12 April 1998)
Ranked #1 at The Gathering in Norway
Ranked #3 at Mekka & Symposium in Germany

Here is a DOS demo with ultra optimised software rasterizer and 3DFX support. Boring to say? Well, it was exploited to show a wonderful 3D ride during more than 10 minuts.

At this time, at Gods, we were fond of 3D exploration with vast world to discover synchronised to music. Everything is running smoothly on a simple Pentium 90 with 16 MB of RAM. Don't miss it!

Code: Odin
Graphisms: Slaine
3D stuffs: Liszt
Soundtrack: Liszt

Download: dimension.zip (4.68 MB)

OLYMPUS 2 (13 October 1998)
Released for the opening of our team website

Olympus 2 is the first demo I made under Windows. It's a small demo (<1MB) that shows a 3D ride in loop. The rasterizer is written 100% in ASM, managing flat and mapped polygons especially optimised for Pentium processor. As usual the code is pretty fast running in 1 vbl on a basic Pentium 90. This demo was originally made to celebrate the opening of our official web site.

Olympus 2 is one of the first, not to say the first, demo that makes use of MP3. Just have a look!

Code: Odin
Graphisms: Slaine
3D stuffs: Liszt
Soundtrack (MP3): Liszt

INCOMING FUTURE (29 December 1998)
Ranked #1 at The Party 1998 in Denmark

Here is probably the *biggest* gOds demo ever released! This is a gigantic space opera of 15 minuts lenght with massive use of cinematics, scenarisations, orchestral musics and so on exactly like a movie. Incoming Future is a real futurist adventure! The demo crushed the competition and won the first price at the biggest demo festival of the world. You cannot miss it!

Code: Odin
Graphisms: Bridgeclaw
Modeling & Texturing: Liszt
Soundtrack: Liszt
Directing: Soni

Download: incoming_future.zip (6.07 MB)

Toys, La Valse Des Jouets (28 March 1999)
Ranked #1 at TRiP 99 in Italy

Toys follows the concept of Incoming Future. It's not really a common demo trying to expose brutal technics and algorithms. It's before all a magic tale that dives you into your childhood with an abundance of colors, choreographies and scenarisations. Toys is a musical produced in a record time of 6 weeks!

This demo was extremely well received and won the TRiP 99 demo competition, defining a new style in the demo scene. A must see!

Code: Odin
Graphisms: Bridgeclaw & Xbarr
Modeling & Texturing: Liszt
Directing: Soni
Audio: Liszt & Soni

Download: toys.zip (4.44 MB) + toys_fix.zip (205 KB)
